Olds Agricultural Society (OAS), owner of impressive agricultural facilities in Olds, Alberta, recently added a project of 3 MegaDome^® buildings to their current installations that were completed in 2007. On their 60 acres land named Olds Agricultural Society Fairgrounds, they added a 125’ wide by 228’ long MegaDome^® used primarily as an equine riding arena, a second 80’ wide by 380’ long MegaDome^® used for equine stabling. In keeping with OAS’ commitment to multifunctioning facilities, these MegaDome^® structures will also be utilized for livestock sales and commercial events such as trade shows.  The third MegaDome^® structure connects the first two together and serves as a home for mechanical services and washrooms as well. 

In business since 1899, this centennial organization strives to promote the agricultural role in their community. Their goals are to encourage improvements of agriculture in their community, organize agricultural activities and other related events and identify the needs of their rural area in order to be customer oriented in delivering partnerships and support to their peers.

MegaDome^® helped OAS achieve their goals by providing them with structures that were excellent venues for agriculture based activities that supplied great lightning, so the need for artificial lightning was considerably reduced.  Wanting to create a thoroughbred training facility, the MegaDome^® was a cost effective solution compared to the regular riding arenas. Time wise, the construction of the buildings was very satisfying to the buyers, allowing them to seize rapidly the opportunities offered by the equine industry.

It’s now been a year since completion of the MegaDome^® project at West Abbey Farm and the owner could not be happier.

Coming a long way since thinking that membrane covered structures were everything but pleasant to the eye, force was to admit, after countless visits and many comments on how beautiful the building was, that purchasing a MegaDome was a good deal!

From the start, Ms James was seduced by her dealer’s outstanding customer service. From choosing the location of construction to selecting the right size of building she needed, the dealer in charge of the sale was there all along the way to provide the information needed.

The fact that there is no subsiding of the covering membrane between the spans keeps the interior of the MegaDome^® quiet even when high winds are blowing. The MegaDome^® suffers no alterations of its feature due to weather. Even on cloudy days, the interior is bright without using artificial lighting. The diffusing characteristic of the membrane eliminates shadow and spreads light evenly throughout the entire building. The shape of the structure also allows easy shedding of the snow, allowing no dangerous snow loads to build-up.

Operating a dairy and cereal farm, the Riendeau Thériault family owns a herd of 40 milk cows and 35 replacement subjects, which produce manure. Manure that needs, in order to respect environmental standards, to be covered to preserve the surroundings.

While visiting an agricultural exhibit, the Riendeau Thériault family started talking with a MegaDome dealer who was able to show them all the benefits of owning a MegaDome^® building. As a commercial hay producer, Hodgson Farm had some special storage needs. Mr. Hodgson needed a building that could provide shelter against inclement weather to store goods while keeping hay dry and moist free. Evaluating different building options, Mr. Hodgson came upon a MegaDome^®’s ad in a local paper. Interest arose as he learned about the MegaDome^®’s advantages.
